At Applied Cell Biology, we welcome a broad spectrum of article types that reflect the evolving and interdisciplinary nature of cell biology research. From mechanistic studies and clinical applications to methodological advancements and theoretical discussions, our goal is to maintain the highest standards of scientific rigor, reproducibility, and transparency.

All article submissions must adhere to ethical standards aligned with the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). This includes ethical approval for studies involving human or animal subjects, informed consent where applicable, and full disclosure of any conflicts of interest.

1. Original Research Article

Full-length manuscripts reporting novel findings in applied and experimental cell biology. Studies must be methodologically sound and clearly present the significance of findings.

  • Cover letter
  • Abstract
  • Keywords
  • Introduction
  • Materials and Methods
  • Results
  • Discussion
  • Conclusion (optional)

2. Review Article

Comprehensive syntheses of the current state of knowledge on a particular topic in cell biology. Should be critical, well-referenced, and identify future directions.
Note: Scoping reviews are accepted with PRISMA-ScR compliance.

3. Systematic Review

Methodologically rigorous reviews that address a focused research question, following PRISMA guidelines. Registration (e.g., PROSPERO) is strongly encouraged.
Required:
• Search strategy
• Inclusion/exclusion criteria
• Risk of bias assessment
• PRISMA flowchart

4. Brief Report

Short, data-driven studies or preliminary findings offering valuable insights into cellular mechanisms or applications. Maintains full ethical and methodological clarity.

5. Case Report

Unique or instructive cellular case studies, including those involving patient-derived models or tissue samples. Requires ethical clearance and patient consent where applicable.
Structure:
• Abstract
• Keywords
• Introduction
• Case Description
• Discussion
• Conclusion

6. Communication

Concise accounts of notable results or findings that require swift dissemination. Ideal for emerging or breakthrough discoveries.

7. Hypothesis

Proposed models or theoretical frameworks supported by existing literature. Should clearly distinguish speculative elements from established facts.

8. Protocol

Detailed plans for proposed or ongoing studies. Encouraged for high-impact or complex research designs. Protocols should be peer-reviewed and preferably registered (e.g., ClinicalTrials.gov).

9. Project Report

Describes design, implementation, and outcomes of research or translational initiatives in applied cell biology, such as biotechnological applications or public health collaborations.

10. Registered Report

Study protocols peer-reviewed before results are known. Aimed at reducing bias and increasing transparency.

11. Technical Note

New or refined experimental techniques, laboratory methods, or computational tools applicable to cellular research. Must be reproducible.

12. Essay

Scholarly reflections on philosophical, historical, or societal aspects of cell biology. Should be critical, well-structured, and properly cited.

The journal operates a double-blind peer review process. Authors may suggest potential reviewers; however, the final selection is at the discretion of the editorial team. The review process is designed to ensure scientific rigor, clarity, and relevance.

All articles are published under an open access model, ensuring unrestricted access worldwide. Authors are responsible for Article Processing Charges (APCs), detailed on the journal’s website.

Researchers from low-income countries and authors whose research was not externally funded may be eligible for APC discounts. For more information, contact: editor@appliedcellbiology.com.

Upon acceptance, authors are required to transfer copyright to the journal. Articles are published under a Creative Commons license, allowing non-commercial reuse with proper attribution.

Authors are encouraged to make datasets, code, and materials publicly available to enhance transparency and reproducibility.

Authors must promptly notify the editorial office of any significant errors identified after publication. Corrections, retractions, or expressions of concern will be issued in accordance.

Submitting a manuscript or withdrawing is solely the interest of an author and we respect their decision. Withdrawal of a manuscript will be permitted only for the most unavoidable reasons, as it wastes the valuable resources and tremendous amount of effort made in processing the manuscripts by the editors, reviewers and the editorial staff.

Authors are entitled to change their mind regarding submitting or withdrawing their articles and they can withdraw their article at no charge - if withdrawn within 3 days of its initial submission only. If the author(s) requests a withdrawal of manuscript any time after the peer review process or in the production stage (Early release) or after it is published online- they will be subjected to payment of 40% of the original article processing fee.
